My mother (Alice) descended from a very prominent, highly educated group of Southern Baptists Ministers and lay-people, who abstained from all alcohol, sex, and other non-essential items of daily life. So, when my 15-year-old mother married a whiskey drinking, womanizing, rodeoing, 27-year-old cowboy co-owner of the largest ranch in Hays County, Texas in 1926, the repercussions through the Southern Baptist herd of her family was said to be equal to, if not greater than, the New Madrid Earthquake of 16 Dec. 1811 in Northern Arkansas, when the old timers swore on stacks of the King James version of the Holy Bible, that the Mississippi River ran backwards for two full days.
When Dad died in 1976, they had been married 50 years, two months and 25 days.
Go figure!!
